Agios is the first biopharmaceutical company dedicated to drug discovery based on targeting cancer metabolism, which offers the potential for a new class of oncology therapeutics targeting metabolic pathways critical to cancer cell growth, proliferation and survival.

Targeting cancer metabolism: With new research showing that cancer cells become addicted to using more nutrients than normal cells to promote their rapid growth, there is an unprecedented opportunity to create a new class of oncology therapeutics that target a fundamental and ubiquitous mechanism in cancer cells.

Agios is developing novel drugs that will primarily target three key metabolic pathways — glycolysis (sugar metabolism), fatty acid metabolism, and autophagy (self-metabolism).
